Cosplay meme time...

October 14th, 2008 (02:55 pm)

I'm feeling: artistic

1. Post the rules
2. Answer each question truthfully
3. Tag 3-5 people at the end

1. What was your first cosplay? (Think hard on this)
My first "proper" cosplay was San from Mononoke Hime and Temari from Naruto's first outfit. They were made at the same time for the London Expo October 2005. But for Halloween in 2004 I made a Shampoo from Ranma 1/2 cosplay. I don't really count this as it was bad looking (made in a day or so XD), and it was worn only for a night with friends. I'll probably remake it someday as I like Shampoo XD

2. Did someone get you into cosplay? Or on your own?
I managed that on my own XD I've always been interested in costumes, and when I got into manga and anime and saw the fantastic costume designs... Well, there was no turning back.. I went to my first London Expo SOLELY because there was supposed to be cosplays there XD

3. What is your favourite cosplay?
My Shippuuden Temari. Atm she is the only cosplay I'm really happy with. After having spent a long time working on her AFTER having used her at a con, I'm no finally happy with her and can't find anything that needs to be improved.. ^_^'

4. Which is your least favourite?
Hmm... I think that will have to be Temari's 1st outfit. The white one.. I just never managed to get it right.. >.<

5. At conventions, do people compliment you on your cosplays? (Unless you're a closet cosplayer you can skip this one)
Yeah, I get compliments, and they really make my day! Makes me soooo happy :D

6. How many have you done?
Hmm... *wonders what to include* Ok, skipping other costumes I've done and only counting the ones I've done recent years: a hobbit - Lord of the Rings, San - Mononoke Hime, Temari 1st outfit - Naruto, Temari 3rd outfit - Shippuuden Naruto, Amane Misa - Death Note, Nanasawa Kimiko - MegaTokyo, Saria - Legend of Zelda, Black Rose - .Hack//, Amelia Lydia II - Original character, Aurora Ebeltoft (almost complete) - Original Steampunk character. I don't *really* count the two last ones as cosplays, but oh well :p That makes a grand total of... 10.. I feel I need to work harder XD

7. What are the top 5 on your list of "Want to Cosplay"?
Oh wow.. Hard question as I haven't really found many dream cosplays yet.. But from the top of my head:
1. Rutela the Zora Queen - Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (if that fails: Ruto from Ocarina of Time )
2. Midna, imp form - Twilight Princess
3. Astaroshe Aslan, artbook version - Trinity Blood (my next big project)
4. one of the female characters from Fire Emblem. But there are so many pretty character designs, so I haven't really made up my mind as to who yet...
5. Midna, human form - Twilight Princess
Boo! I want a longer list! There are so many I want to cosplay! XD

8. What female cosplay do you want to do most?
Queen Rutela. I have never seen her cosplayed before. And she's so pretty!

9. What male cosplay do you want to do most?
Hmm.. For some reason I haven't thought of any crossplays yet, simply because there have always been so many female characters catching my attention.... Oh! LIES! I just remembered I REALLY want to cosplay the male versions of the Black Mages and Thieves in Final Fantasy - Crystal Chronicles games ^_^

10. What do you prefer to do, make or buy your costumes?
I make them. Even my first costume was home made XD I just love the process of making a costume, you learn so much! And I have to admit; when people compliment me for a cotume I've made myself.. That makes me proud ;P

11. Your most memorable experience? What makes it so memorable?
Hmm... Oh! At an October Expo in 2006, I was wearing my Temari 1st version cosplay when this girl who couldn't speak approached me. I can't use sign language, but she made it pretty clear she wanted a picture of me. Just as she had taken it her mom or guardian person came and told her to get next to me so we could be together in the picture. When I gave her my fan so she could pose with it on the picture she actually got so happy she got tears in her eyes! o.O When they left her mum told me that Temari was her favourite character of all time, and she had been stalking me for a while, but been too shy to ask for a picture ^_^ It felt so good having been a part of making someone so happy =)

12. Your dream cosplay?
I actually don't know... There are many cosplays I want to make, but the ones that are currently on my list I think I'll actually be capable of doing. I'm looking for one though! A cool cosplay that have that Wow-ness to it ^_^

13. Is there a pattern in your cosplays? If so, what? (Things like they have a certain personality, or hair colour)
I've been trying to think of something, but it seems like I've cosplayed/want to cosplay all kinds of characters XD Though recently I've been hooked on games charaters.

14. Your most recent cosplay?
Black Rose from .Hack// and Saria from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time from Amecon 08.

15. What do you prefer? Cosplaying in a group or on your own?
Either is good, I like standing out and be the only one from a game or series. But I prefer being a part of a group as you can get some really good pictures from that, as well as it easier to start talking to someone with a cosplay from the same source as me ^_^

I tag cosplayers out there who hasn't already done this ^_^

I have stuff! =D

September 10th, 2008 (06:50 pm)

I'm feeling: hungry
Today I sing along to: Once - Falling Slowly

Woot! I finally have enough bits and pieces to start my Steampunk costume! :D Got my hat, got my gloves, got my cogs, got my test tubes, got my pocket watch, and yesterday I bought the fabric and leatherette I need for sewing the actual dress! Now time to start working! YAY! =D ...but first it's time for dinner! ^_^

And yes, all that was just an excuse for posting this:

Your result for The Steampunk Style Test...

The Ragamuffin

25% Elegant, 38% Technological, 7% Historical, 44% Adventurous and 69% Playful!

You are the Ragamuffin, the embodiment of steampunk playfulness. Chances are, you approach the genre from a much more casual and lighthearted standpoint than most other fans. To you, there is always an element of play inherent in the genre, and you may very well enjoy fashion as much for the opportunity to dress up as for the style itself. You probably wear goggles as an accessory, and rarely as actual eye-protection. Your outfits are likely to incorporate a lot of brown or cream, and combine large boots, Victorian corsets or vests, aviator caps or bowler hats, and gypsy skirts or slacks, simply because you like them all.

I've been bitten... HARD!

August 30th, 2008 (08:01 pm)

current location: eBay!
I'm feeling: disappointed
Today I sing along to: Abney Park - The Secret Life of Dr Calgori

I need something to do while waiting for time to pass. I've in the middle of a bidding duel on eBay. Atm I'm bidding on an old, broken pocket watch! Tomorrow I will repeat it again, only then it will be for the purpose of getting my hands on old cogs - the wheels that's inside watches...  Earlier today I bought test tubes! (And discovered one can easily assemble a whole laboratory - including chemicals!! just from buying from eBay! o.O *feels the mad scientist inside her is twitching and trying to surface*). Another item I'm watching is a vintage velocity steam caliper!  o.O I want it, but I'll have to see how much I'll have to spend on the other items first, as the shipping will cost me quite a bit. No, I haven't gone mad, not more than what I'm known to be anyway... ^_^: It's all in the name of Steampunk. sjbonnar introduced me to the world of Steampunk a few days ago. And I got hooked! Well, it really wasn't that hard... For me Steampunk is one of those fandoms I've had for a long, long time, but I didn't know it had a name and not to mention so many other fans. Reading about it was a new experience for me. Normally when you're to learn about something you get more confused and get more questions as you read and discover a whole new world of things you don't know. This time it was the complete opposite: The more I read, the more I realized I already knew about the subject *lol*. Somethings are just meant to be!

All that resulted in a few days of intense planning, lots of hours on google and a brand new character to go with sjbonnar's Steampunk story (honestly, it's starting to look more like a novel). So yeah, all those items listed above actually have a purpose! *lol* I've become a Steampunk scientist, and are now assembling a suiting outfit to go with the character. Going to start with the accessorize as I still live at my boyfriend's parent's place, and so haven't bought a sewing machine. Therefore my plan is to do as much as i can without one: designing, getting everything I'll need, planning, cutting, trying, painting and so on... Can't wait to see the finished result! It's supposed to be worn at the October Expo this year.

******wooo! Time is ticking! Not long left now...******

And while I'm on the subject of costuming: I've been trying to get my head around what cosplays to make next. I've got such a long list! And because I've started to play Chrystal Chronicles: My Life As A King, I got three new cosplays to add to an already growing list! Still, I'm not happy with my list, as they're all apart one, fairly simple, non-impressive cosplays. I wish I could find a cosplay soon that has that "WOW"-factor to it. I've seen a few I want to do that belongs to that group, but they're all from games I haven't played yet. And they're online game, so I'd need a computer and money before I can have a closer look at them.. And I have no monies atm >.<

******AAAARRRGHHHH!!!! I lost the pocket watch!! And it was sooo pretty too! *_* I'm sad now... But I guess I have to keep looking then******

Anyway, cosplays!

Currently I've got 9 cosplays on my list. 10 including the Steampunk one.

So my cosplay list currently looks like this:

October Expo:

  • Saturday: Saria - Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
  • Ball: Amalie Lydia II - Original Character (that looks like she won't be a real character after all, as the author has lost all motivation to work on the story *grumble* So now it's basically "just another dress" =(
  • Sunday: Steampunk - name of character will be revealed once she has been introduced to the story. And the thing that happened above better not happen again! *shakes fist* Not that I think it will, as the author isn't the same person *lol*

  • 1st cosplay: Serra - Fire Emblem
  • 2nd cosplay: Nia - DearS (was meant to cosplay her for Amecon, so I've got everything I need for her. Just didn't get the time to make it)
  • 3rd cosplay: undecided
  • And someone has mentioned there might be a Ball: will probably wear Serra again for that

May Expo 2009:
  • 1st cosplay: Astaroshe Aslan (artbook version) - Trinity Blood
  • 2nd cosplay: Hinamori Amu (Amulet Spade or School Uniform depending on what the rest of the group is wearing) - Shugo Chara

Planned cosplays:
Cosplays that are planned but I haven't decided when to wear them yet are:
Al Azif - Demonbane
Rider - Fate Stay/Night
Thief - Chrystal Chronicles: My Life As A King
Black Mage - Chrystal Chronicles: My Life As A King
Selkie merchant- Chrystal Chronicles: My Life As A King

Go green!

August 20th, 2008 (06:58 pm)

I'm feeling: amused
Today I sing along to: Ida Maria - I Like You So Much Better When You're Naked

It started as a joke at the Amecon forums before the con. We (Zelda-cosplayers) noticed that there would be a LOT of green in our costumes, so one girl decided she would make a "Go green!" sign. And she did! XD

I think the funniest picture is of Red Link (Link in his red tunic) holding the sign XD. But I haven't found that picture yet =( I hope someone will upload it soon.

Anyway, one thing led to another, so I made a new profile picture for my Facebook..

And today when I was out shopping....

I just HAD to buy it! XD It will definitely be the bag I'll use when I'm wearing Saria again for the October MCM Expo! :P

Now... 10 points for the person who guesses my favourite colour! XD

A weekend of ups and downs.

August 16th, 2008 (12:32 am)

current location: in front of the computer
I'm feeling: gloomy
Today I sing along to: Radio P4

As some of you know I spent the weekend at Amecon in Leicester. It was my first proper con ever! Yay! =D Was meant to post some progress pics here before I went there, but there was no time. Even  after having stayed up till 4 AM the night before we left, me and Greg still didn't manage to finish our cosplays >.< So we had to pack stuff like glue gun, fabric and paints in addition to everything else.. That in itself wasn't so bad, as there wasn't much left to do, so we'd manage to finish the cosplays before they were needed... If it wasn't for  the fact that Greg forgot to bring the orange fabric he needed to make Kite's hat, so he dropped that cosplay.. NGAAAAH!! Kind of annoying as I spent time working/helping him with Kite, time that I could've used to complete at least one of my cosplays.. Oh well.. Accidents do happen.. It might be me next time.. ^_^''  And I did feel very sorry for him, because he really wanted to cosplay, and he weren't at all  happy with the looks of his kokiri cosplay (his very first self made cosplay).. I really hope we can make something good for him for the October Expo! So yeah, for several reasons it was a weekend with very good moments, and very bad ones.

This post will contain text only, I’ve still to see through all the pictures from the weekend, so a picture post will come later ^_^

Well.. if I am to tell about the weekend I guess I should start at the beginning.. Our train from Glasgow to Leicester left about 12pm Thursday.  This was one of the good moments. The very first thing we saw when we walked into the train station was a guy with cat ears and a tail! So already in Glasgow we started to see traces of Amecon! =D Turned out we were at least 15 going from Glasgow to Leicester that day. For some reason the other passengers at the train station were giving us strange looks. Guess they have never seen people with cat ears and huge props before =P Unfortunately those people  had reserved seats on the train, so we didn't get to sit next to them on our way down and we didn't get to know them well. But every time we ran into each other after that we had a little chat. ..Too bad I don't remember their badge names.. =(

Journey down was ok, save for me falling asleep with my head bent in a very strange position against the wall. That was going to haunt me for the rest of the weekend. I couldn't turn my head, nor could I look up and down.. >.< But we got to Opal Court (the dorms where we were staying for the weekend). The next few hours were spent working intensively on our cosplays, until Tsuchinoko and Strawberry arrived in Leicester and we went out for a meal with them.

Friday we were out of the door already before 8. Very excited and ready for the con. We first went to a shop to stock up for the weekend, and then we headed to the registrations. All in all, not much happened Friday. After having waited in line for registration for a long time, I headed back to the hotel to continue working on my cosplays. In the end I ended up not cosplaying that day. I did get to go to Name that Tune, which was fun. But our team didn't win (boo! =P) and the AMV Disco was good too. Though I was too sober to really enjoy a disco...

Saturday I cosplayed as Black Rose from the .Hack// games. It was great fun! So many stopped me for my picture! =D But looking at them now, I don’t think I’ll cosplay her again. At least not until I’ve been working out! The lazy summer has been bad to my stomach *sigh* =( I do want to cosplay her again, because my boyfriend wants to do Kite later on.. But we’ll see on how much I’ve been working out XD I entered the Masquerade, which in itself was ok. If it wasn’t for the fact I had to wait several hours in a costume I couldn’t sit down in >.< The day kinda went downhill from there.. In the evening there was the pub quiz, but there was no seats left when we got there, so we left and headed for the game room. Stayed there a short while before going to the J-pop/anime theme party and the J-rock disco.  I didn’t manage to enjoy myself though. All I could think of was how fun everyone else seemed to have while drinking with their friends. The people I spent the weekend with don’t drink, so when I bought myself a drink I couldn’t help feeling all alone. I ended up thinking of how much I missed my friends back in Norway, and cursing the fact that I’m too shy to come up with something to say to strangers when I’m sober, so I didn’t make any new friends either.. That resulted in having a major emo-night. I even went outside where I hid behind some cars and cried. I really, really hope I managed to hide well enough so that no one saw me! If someone did, I hope they never tell me... I’m not the one who usually ends up crying at parties. Went home early that night, only to cry more in my room.

Sunday was all right though. I cosplayed as Saria from Legend of  Zelda: Ocarina of Time. A few of LoZ-cosplayers were meant to meet up for a photoshoot, but almost no one came. A pity, but I had lots of fun with the ones who did come ^_^  Rest of the day was spent using the rest of my money, which wasn’t much, seeing as the cash machines in the area didn’t work anymore. Next we headed for the Omake. Huge disappointment! After having waited for a long time outside the hall where it was held, we were told to wait outside. The rehearsals ran late, and so many wanted to see the omake that they decided to film it at show it on the different tv’s in the building.. Which means that we could’ve got to see it without queuing up.. >.< Oh well, we did get in there in the end! And the omake was quite good. Though there was too much singing in my opinion. Nothing wrong with the performers though! Most of them could sing really well.. But it got boring.. Because the omake ran late, the rest of the events got delayed as well. We didn’t know that, so when we finally got back after having spent a while in out room changing for the ball, we thought we were over an hour late. Turned out the Cosplay Ball had started just a short time before. Lucky! ^_^ The ball was great fun! I loved watching all the great and beautiful ball gowns and dressed up people! There were so many dresses I would love to own myself there! XD And the music was perfect! But me and Greg really need to learn some ballroom dancing before the next ball we attend! I don’t think we looked very impressive out on the dance floor, not that we were alone in not knowing any dances *lol* XD And as a great ending to the ball, I WON THE “QUEEN OF THE BALL” title!!!! =D =D =D I NEVER saw that coming! I got dragged up on stage to receive my diploma, tickets to the Grand Cosplay Ball in London and a tiara. ..So.. many.. people.. there.. to.. watch... And I was in chock after winning, so my English was really, really, really bad! >.< I still get embarrassed thinking of how I spoke in the microphone... I hope people didn’t pay too much attention..

After  that we stayed for a bit longer, but me and Greg went back to our room when the ball ended and the disco begun. My dress was way too big to move around in in a crowed disco where people jump and spill their drinks.. Besides, we had to check out of our room quite early the next day, and we had a LOT to pack before we could go to bed..

So that was the tale of my first con. It was mostly spent walking about with nothing in partucular to do and a feeling of not quite belonging anywhere. Don't get me wrong! I really love hanging out with Greg and his friends. It's just that they're not like my friends back in Norway, and don't do the same stuff as they do. And so many at the con were doing things me and my friends do. So yeah.. I felt a loss. But that is up to me to do something about. Amecon itself was great! And I can’t wait for the next con! But next time I have to make sure I get to know someone before I go, so that I can be amongst those who are having fun, instead of being the one who breaks down behind a car.  >.<* A more enjoyable post about the Amecon weekend will come later, as that will contain happy pictures instead of sad text ;)

Ngaaah!!! Amecon Is Approaching Too Soon!! So... much... left.. to.. do.... So why am I here you might ask.. Really, I don't know! I should be working on my cosplays! XD Oh well, everyone can have a small break, ne? :P Besides, I was out shopping yesterday, so now I've got almost all the things I need to complete my cosplays. Still need two more things, but will go out to get them tomorrow ^_^

Speaking of shopping.. This is what a few hours at Hobbycrafft did to me and Greg yesterday... It got expensive! XD ..But at least the most expensive things are things we won't have to buy again.. So if I now could get a room I could use as a hobby room and store all these things in, and a sewing machine, I'd be beyond happy! *lol*

Oh, just noticed, a 2m x 1m sheet of fun foam is not included in the picture.. Yeah.. we were a sight on the bus.. XD Now off to use some of this! ^_^

Blowing off the dust

July 25th, 2008 (04:25 pm)

current location: Hamilton, Scotland
I'm feeling: content
Today I sing along to: Sixx_AM - Tomorrow

Wow, I've really missed posting here! But things happening in my life the last half year have kept me from it. And looking at the last posts I made here, I'm so happy I quit! The posts would've got a lot more depressing if I decided to continue. Yeah, the last year, up untill summer, was not a good one for me. But that has changed now, and life is good again ^^

A quick update about what's been going on in my life lately, and where I'm now:
This spring I graduated from univerity, and have now got a bachelor degree and can work as a pre-school treacher ^^ Well, in theory I can work as that.. Thing is, I recently left Norway and moved to Scotland to live with my boyfriend. so that means I won't be able to start working as a teacher, not yet anyway. Have to wait till my English gets better and I know the local culture. But right now I'm just happy to start at the bottom and work my way up. I'll be overjoyed if I just get a job, because that will mean I can stay here, and this won't turn out to be just a long vacation =) So yeah, will spend the time ahead of me job hunting. wish me luck! ^_^

Have also been working a lot on my cosplays, but I'll make a separate post about that later on, where I'll include pictures ^_^ something tells me that that post will be image heavy! *lol* Currently I'm working on my Black Rose and ball cosplay for Amecon. Was meant to cosplay as Nia (DearS) aswell, even has all the fabric and other things I need to make her. But my boyfriend's family only have a really old sewing machine. Old and in bought-before-WWII by the looks of it. It works, but it doesn't sew very neatly, nor doest it handle elastic fabrics very well.. And I've got no time to hand stitch a whole cosplay, in addition to those I already have to complete, before Amecon.. So it's sad, but I'll just have to leave her for later.. On the other hand, I now know excatly what my first pay check will be spent on when I get a job! XD

So what have my days been spent on after I got here? well, I got here Wednesday the 16th of July. Was home, or what's my temporarily home, around 10pm. Went to bed not long after that seeing as I was tired from having run about on airports all day long. That and we had to get up early the next morning to catch the train from Glasgow to London. Arrived in London at something past 2pm. Spent a few hours in Camden. Oh, I've missed Camden sooo much! A few hours there is not enough! XD Need to go early down for the Oct Expo so I can spend the Friday there. Well, I didn't get much, save a hat and a t-shirt and a really cool Gothic Lolita collar and wristband (luves them!) But my boyfriend got a really cool shirt and coat, old victorian, aristocrate type of coat and shirt for the Amecon ball ^_^ I'm sooo looking forward to when we get our own place, I'm then going to steal that shirt and walk around the house in it. as it's so comfortable, and it looks sexy on! XD
after a few hours we had to leave the awesomness that is Camden, and make our way to Drury Lane, via Charing Cross to drop off our luggage. We had tickets for the Lord of the Rings musical (again, we saw it last summer aswell XD). It was just as great as last time! even better when i come to think of it. Might be because I've got the CD and could sing/hum along to the lyrics this time ^_^ Ending was sad though, it was Michael Therriault's (Gollum) last day on stage. So "Sam" held a speach, everyone got teary eyed, and "Gollum" got flowers. It was a very nice way to end it. Made me want to be there for the very last show aswell, at the same time as that would be too sad an experience.

Well, the show ended, and we had a whole night to spend on doing nothing XD we couldn't get our luggage back untill 7am and we had no hotel to stay in. And they kicked us out of the train station after the last train for the night had left XD But it ended up beeing a very nice night, albeit a cold one. Me and my boyfriend spent it walking about the Charing Cross, Trafalgar Square (I think XD) and the Millennium Bridge area, all the way up to Waterloo station. Got to see people doing maitenance on the London Eye, and in all got to relax and enjoy an area that's usually packed with people. Now we were alone most of the time, save for when a person or three walked by. I won't need to hear Big Ben for a while either. Having listened to it every 15th minute for a couple of hours is enough XD.

The following morning we got on the train to Maidstone, where my boyfriend Greg's cousin was to get married. Got to relax and meet Greg's family and relatives (I UNDERSTAND DRUNKEN GLASWEGIAN!! I ish proud! XD). The wedding was held Saturday, and it was a very nice wedding. The bride was from a Scottish family, and the groom was from an English family. So the wedding ended up being a mix of traditional Scottish and English culture. A very cool experience for a Norwegian girl! ;) The rest of the day was spent doing wedding stuff; fancy dinner, party and talk to people, and complaining about evil shoes that tried to kill my feet. They nearly succeded, I am sure.
The couple surrounded by the kilt clad men, the youngest being just 16 months old (he was soo cute in his wee kilt! =D)

Sunday we went to Greg's aunt and uncle in Canterbury. They had a big BBQ with lots of yummy food! =D We spent the night there, and went back to London and by train up to Glasgow again Monday. The days after that have been spent enjoying not having lots of people around all the time XD and cosplay working. wish I should really get back to now.. Ta-ra!
